Ingredients:
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 lb chicken, cut into small pieces
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 1 tbsp ginger paste
- 1 tbsp garlic paste
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala powder
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro leaves
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
- 
Rinse the rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in cold water for 30 minutes, and then drain. 
- 
In a large pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and fry until they start to sizzle. 
- 
Add the onions and fry until they turn golden brown. 
- 
Add the chicken and fry until it turns golden brown. 
- 
Add the ginger paste, garlic paste, green chilies, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and garam masala powder. Fry for a minute. 
- 
Add the diced tomatoes and fry until they turn mushy. 
- 
Add the yogurt and fry for 2-3 minutes. 
- 
Add the soaked rice to the pot and stir well. 
- 
Add 4 cups of water and salt to taste. Stir well. 
- 
Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and cook on low heat for 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is cooked. 
- 
Once the rice is cooked, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. 
- 
Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves and serve hot.
